Nightly Ceremony at Wagah Checkpoint

Wagah is located on the India-Pakistan border. The only checkpoint between the two countries is located here. Every night a colorful “flag-lowering”  ceremony is carried out at this site. This ceremony is quite a tourist attraction on both the sides of the border. This excellent video will permit you to enjoy the ceremony without having to travel there.:)

I have no idea of the significance of this daily ritual besides entertainment for the tourists. Perhaps my view is cynical and demonstrates my ignorance of the political significance of this daily exercise. One thing is clear that both the sides seem to devote a lot of “energy” towards its perfection. I have to wonder, “could this efforts and resources be devotes for a greater social good by these two countries”? You may have a different opinion.
