Poverty, Local Violence, and Compassion – What is the Connection?

Looking at the title of this blog one may wonder why global poverty, local violence, and compassion are together there. I would wonder about that. In this TED presentation Gary Haugen describes why all the efforts and money devoted over the years have not been enough to eliminate poverty anywhere; how does the local violence the poor are regularly subjected to have defeated even the best of those efforts; and lastly, how our collective compassion can address the root causes of this failure and brings about much needed success.

Use the link below to watch Mr. Haugen’s eye-opening presentation. Perhaps it will motivate you to reevaluate the way your contributions for ‘poverty eradication’ are utilized. I should caution that the presented material does get quite disturbing at times.:(
